About this sheet
Almost every tracing sheet you can print is a font with a dashed outline, and that is a different exercise than it looks. A font gives you the BOUNDARY of a filled shape, so dashing it asks a child to trace around the edge of a hollow letter — which is colouring-in. What a formation sheet needs is the centreline: the single path a pencil tip travels, in teaching order. There is no way to extract one from a font and no licence-free copybook face to borrow, so every digit here was drawn by hand as an open curve and then measured against nine real typefaces until its proportions matched.
Why it is drawn this way
The stroke order follows the Zaner-Bloser manuscript convention used in most US and Canadian classrooms: 4, 5 and 9 are two strokes, the rest are one. Where a digit has two strokes, both get their own numbered start ring, because the order is the part a child gets wrong in a way that is hard to unlearn — a 4 built bottom-up looks identical on the page and falls apart the moment it has to be written quickly.
