What to practice this year

π is the first constant a child meets that is not a whole number and not a choice. Circumference and area both use it, both take one measurement, and both go wrong the same way — by putting a diameter where the formula wanted a radius. The two sheets are separate on purpose so a child can get each one steady before meeting them mixed.

Why these skills come next

Angle pairs are the year's quiet piece of algebra. Complementary, supplementary, and vertical angles are three short facts, and the standard asks a child to write an equation from a picture and solve it. The arithmetic is one subtraction; the work is reading which fact the drawing is showing.
