What's on this sheet
One direction turns a fraction into a decimal by dividing: 3/4 is 0.75, and 1/3 is 0.3 with a bar over the 3 because the digits repeat forever. The other turns a terminating decimal back into a fraction in lowest terms: 0.75 becomes 3/4. The repeating part is found exactly by tracking remainders, so the bar is always in the right place.

- The line in a fraction has always been a division sign: 1/8 means 1 ÷ 8.
- 8 does not go into 1, so write a point and put zeros after it. 1 is the same amount as 1.000 — the zeros change nothing, they just give the division room to keep going.
- 10 ÷ 8 = 1, leaving 2. Bring down the next zero: 20.
- 20 ÷ 8 = 2, leaving 4. Bring down the next zero: 40.
- 40 ÷ 8 = 5, leaving 0.
- The remainder is 0, so it stops there. 1/8 = 0.125.
