Why a week beats one long page

Negative numbers are seventh grade's reliable source of silent errors. A student who has the rule can still lose the sign under time pressure, and the fix is not more explanation — it is enough repetition that the sign stops being a separate decision.

How to run it

The climb here is in the size of the operands rather than in the rule. Monday's pairs are small enough to walk along a number line if needed; Friday's run to the ends of the range in both directions, where the line is no longer a practical fallback and the rule has to carry it alone.
