What's on this sheet

Every mean on these sheets is a whole number, and that is a decision rather than a lucky seed. A mean is a division and almost never comes out even — five free numbers give 27.4 about as often as not, and a sheet that asks a child for 27.4 in a blank has changed the question from “share the total out” to “write a decimal you have not been taught yet”. So the set is built backward from a total that divides by five, the same way the long-division and Pythagoras sheets are built backward from an answer that lands whole.

Why this sheet works

Every set also has exactly one mode. Two values appearing twice each is a real distribution and has a real name, and it is unmarkable in a single blank: the child writes one of them, the answer key holds the other, and the sheet was wrong before it printed. One value repeats on every row here and every other value appears once.
