Relating two number patterns, step by step

Two number patterns run side by side, each from its own rule, and the question is how the two rows relate.

The question

Two rules, two patterns

row 1:618
row 2:1236
row 3:1854
row 4:2472
row 1:618
row 2:1236
row 3:1854
row 4:2472
row 1:618
row 2:1236
row 3:1854
row 4:2472
  1. Two patterns side by side, and the question is the LINK between them — the one number that turns every left value into the one beside it.
  2. Read it off any complete row. Row 1: 6 on the left, 18 on the right — 18 ÷ 6 = 3.
  3. Check it holds down the column: 12 × 3 = 36, 18 × 3 = 54. Every bottom number is 3 times the top one, so the rule is × 3.

How it works.

  1. 01

Two patterns side by side, and the question is the LINK between them — the one number that turns every left value into the one beside it.

  2. 02

    Read it off any complete row. Row 1: 6 on the left, 18 on the right — 18 ÷ 6 = 3.

  3. 03

    Check it holds down the column: 12 × 3 = 36, 18 × 3 = 54. Every bottom number is 3 times the top one, so the rule is × 3.
