Translations, step by step
A translation slides a point without turning or flipping it, so both coordinates change on their own and nothing else does.
The question
4 right and 4 up ()
(−2, 0) 4 right and 4 up
(−2, 0)
across=2
up=4
(−2, 0)→(2, 4)
- Start where the point is: (−2, 0). The move is 4 right and 4 up, and the question is only where those two numbers end up.
- Sliding changes each coordinate on its own. Across, it moves 4 right: −2 + 4 = 2. Up, it moves 4 up: 0 + 4 = 4.
- So it lands on (2, 4).
How it works.
- 01
Start where the point is: (−2, 0). The move is 4 right and 4 up, and the question is only where those two numbers end up.
- 02
Sliding changes each coordinate on its own. Across, it moves 4 right: −2 + 4 = 2. Up, it moves 4 up: 0 + 4 = 4.
- 03
So it lands on (2, 4).
