Grade 4 year test
The two long written methods, and the fraction idea the next two years are built on.

What's on this test
Fourth grade is where arithmetic gets long. Multi-digit multiplication and long division are both multi-step procedures with a place to lose your place, and both are here in full rather than as short versions — five and four questions is enough to show whether the loop is reliable, which is what the year is assessed on.
How the paper is put together
Equivalent fractions is the third section and it is not an afterthought. Everything grade 5 does with fractions — adding unlike denominators, simplifying, comparing — assumes a child accepts that two different pairs of numbers can name one amount. A child who is fluent at both written methods and shaky here will hit a wall in the autumn, and this is where you would see it coming.
