For f(x) = 3 · 2ˣ at x = 4, the power comes first — 2⁴ = 16 — and then the coefficient — 3 · 16 = 48. Why this sheet works

The coefficient in front is what makes this a function rather than a bare power: a·bˣ starts at a and grows by a factor of b each time x rises by one. It is worth naming b⁰ = 1 here too, because f(0) is then just the coefficient a — a check a child can do in their head.
