Circle how many worksheets

Reading a group and saying "seven" is one skill; taking seven out of a pile is another, and a child who can do the first often cannot yet do the second. These free printable worksheets ask for the second one: each row names a number, and the child circles that many of the pictures.

The answer key prints on a separate page.

What's on this sheet

Every row holds more objects than the number asks for, so counting has to stop in the right place — which is the part that makes this harder than counting a whole group. The Common Core lists it separately for that reason (K.CC.B.5, count out that many objects).

Why this sheet works

Any of the objects may be circled and the instruction says so, because there is no single correct set; the answer key rings the first few, which is one right answer out of many. Nobody should be marked wrong for starting at the other end.
