This is the one sheet on the site you need scissors for. A shape is printed as an outline, its pieces are printed underneath, and the child cuts them out and works out how they go back together.

What's on this sheet
Composing is something you do, not something you pick. The standard asks a child to put simple shapes together to make a bigger one, and a multiple-choice question that asks which two shapes make a rectangle has not asked that — the child who reads the four options has composed nothing. Paper is the only surface that can set this task properly, because a page can be cut and a screen cannot.
Why this sheet works
The pieces are the six the curriculum names: rectangles, squares, triangles, trapezoids, half-circles and quarter-circles. The first version of this sheet cut rectangles into rectangles, which is two of the six — and the kindergarten standard's own worked example is the one it could not produce, joining two triangles to make a rectangle. The answer key names each piece with those words.
