Circle the multiples worksheets

Listing multiples is recall; picking them out of a row is recognition. These free printable worksheets show a number in a box and six candidates, and the child circles every one that belongs.

What's on this sheet

Most of the row is a real rejection, so every number has to be tested rather than matched to a remembered list. Testing is the useful skill here. Knowing that 32 is a multiple of 8 because 8 × 4 = 32 is what later makes common multiples and fractions with unlike denominators manageable.

Why this sheet works

A row can hold more than one answer, and a child who stops at the first circle will miss the rest, so it is worth saying that at the start. This is a print sheet, because a drawn ring is the answer. The numbers in the boxes run up to the Level you pick in the maker.

How this one works

Multiples of 8

  1. Multiples of 8 are what you get counting in 8s — they start at 8 and keep getting bigger. (Factors are the other way: they go into 8.)
  2. Count in 8s and see which of these you land on: 16, 32, 40. Anything you step over is not one — landing on it is the whole test.
