Addition without regrouping, step by step
Two-digit addition is much easier to learn when the carrying is taken out of it first.
The question
84 + 12
84=80+4
12=10+2
80+10=90
4+2=6
90+6=96
- 84 + 12, written across the line — so split each one into its tens and its ones, and add like with like.
- The tens together: 80 + 10 = 90.
- The ones together: 4 + 2 = 6.
- Put the two parts back together: 90 + 6 = 96.
