What's on this test

A word problem asks two things and is usually marked as one. First, which operation does this sentence want; second, can you carry it out. A child who chooses correctly and slips on the arithmetic knows more than one who computes cleanly after choosing wrong — and a single tick or cross records neither.

How the paper is put together

Six is deliberately few. The work in these is the reading, and a page of twenty turns that work into fatigue; what shows up after the tenth is stamina rather than comprehension.
