Compare numbersTwo-digit numbers
Write >, =, or < between each pair of numbers.
Comparing two-digit numbers is the first time a child has to look at the tens before the ones. These free printable worksheets give ten pairs a page to mark with greater than, less than or equal, with an answer key to check against.
If they get stuck

The answer key prints on a separate page.
Look at the pair 29 and 92. They use the same two digits, and only the place of each digit says which is bigger. Pairs like that are on the sheet on purpose, because a child who looks at the 9 first gets them wrong, and that shows exactly what still needs teaching.
Some pairs share a tens digit, so the ones decide: 23 is less than 24, and 78 is greater than 76. Some pairs are the same number twice, so 73 and 73 need an equal sign, and a child who has only ever been asked which one is bigger has to stop and think. When two-digit pairs feel easy, the next step is the same sheet with three digits.
