Compare numbersThree-digit numbers
Write >, =, or < between each pair of numbers.
Comparing three-digit numbers means reading from the left and stopping at the first digit that differs. These free printable worksheets give ten pairs a page to mark with greater than, less than or equal, with an answer key.
If they get stuck

The answer key prints on a separate page.
The pairs are built so that a child cannot get by on one digit. 135 and 153 share a hundreds digit, so the tens decide. 867 and 863 share two digits, so the ones decide. 861 and 761 are settled by the hundreds, even though the rest of the digits match.
The hardest pairs have a zero in them. In 990 and 909 the digits are nearly the same, and the 0 in the tens place is what makes 909 smaller. 305 and 350 work the same way. A child who can explain those two has understood place value and not just the rule, and a pair like 802 and 802 keeps the equal sign in play.
