Without a shortcut, the threes reward knowing the times table cold. 27 ÷ 3 is a puzzle only until you remember 3 × 9 = 27, and then the answer is simply 9. The division fact and the multiplication fact are one family read from opposite ends.
Why this sheet works

- You could deal them out and count a share. The shortcut is the same fact read backwards: 3 shares of WHAT makes 9?
- 3 × 3 = 9. That is the one, so 9 ÷ 3 = 3.
- Worth checking, because it costs one multiplication: 3 × 3 = 9. It matches, so the answer holds.
