Counting by fives does the heavy lifting. To solve 45 ÷ 5, count 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and notice you said nine numbers — so the answer is 9. It is the same rhythm as reading a clock's minutes.
Why this sheet works
Place value offers a shortcut: dividing by 5 is the same as dividing by 10 and then doubling. Take 40 ÷ 5 — split off the zero to get 4, double it, and you have 8. The fact family always backs it up, since 40 ÷ 5 = 8 because 5 × 8 = 40.
