What's on this sheet

There is no halving, no doubling and no digit trick here. What there is instead is the fact family: 63 ÷ 7 = 9 because 7 × 9 = 63. A child who knows the seven times table finds this page easy and a child who does not finds it slow, and that is a useful thing for an adult to learn in ten questions.

Why this sheet works

Skip-counting is the bridge while the facts settle. Count 7, 14, 21, 28… and track how many sevens it took — that count is the answer. It is slower than recall and it always works, which is exactly what a bridge should be.

  1. 28 ÷ 7 means sharing 28 out equally between 7. Deal them round one at a time until they run out; the answer is how many end up in one share.
  2. Dealing out 28 one at a time works, and takes all day. The shortcut is the same fact read backwards: 7 shares of WHAT makes 28?
  3. 7 × 4 = 28. That is the one, so 28 ÷ 7 = 4.
  4. Worth checking, because it costs one multiplication: 4 × 7 = 28. It matches, so the answer holds.
