A volume is a count before it is a formula: a solid packed with 24 unit cubes has a volume of 24 cubic units, and that sentence is the whole of the standard. These free printable worksheets draw the block with its cubes showing and print no measurement anywhere.

What's on this sheet
No edge is labelled. That is the difference between this page and the volume sheet that follows it — with three numbers printed, a child multiplies them and never has to know what the product counts. Here the only route to the answer is the cubes, so the layer structure has to be seen rather than assumed.
Why this sheet works
Three faces of each block are drawn, which is all a solid shows. The rest is inferred, and inferring it is the point: a child who counts the front face and multiplies by the depth has found the method the formula is a shorthand for. A block drawn with every hidden cube visible would answer the question in the picture.
