Early MathCarroll diagrams, numbers to 20
Write each number in the box that fits both its row and its column.
A Carroll diagram sorts by two properties the way a Venn diagram does, with four boxes in place of circles. These free printable worksheets give a child eight numbers to place, and every number has exactly one box it can go in. Answer key included.

The answer key prints on a separate page.
One property runs along the top and the other runs down the side, so each box answers two questions at once. For Odd and More than 10, the 13 goes under Odd and across from More than 10. The 16 is more than 10 but not odd, and the 4 is neither, so it goes in the box that says not odd and not more than 10.
What a Carroll diagram adds is that the "no" answers have names. A Venn diagram leaves the leftovers outside the circles, and here they get a labeled box of their own, which is why children often find it the easier of the two. The numbers on this page stop at 20, with three diagrams to a sheet. Try the same sort as a Venn diagram to see that the answers are the same.
