A kilogram is a thousand grams, so converting mass is the same place-value shift as length, one factor further along: 2 kg is 2000 g, 3500 g is 3.5 kg. To a smaller unit multiply, to a larger unit divide, and the amounts stay whole or half so the decision is the lesson, not the sum.
