The whole method is a substitution that deletes a term. For the x-intercept of 3x + 4y = 24, set y = 0 and the 4y is gone, leaving 3x = 24 and x = 8. For the y-intercept, set x = 0 instead. The one thing to keep straight is which zero goes where — the x-intercept is found by making y zero, not x — and every step-by-step walk here shows the term disappearing so the swap is visible.
Why this sheet works
These are standard-form equations on purpose. In y = 3x + 5 the y-intercept is 5, printed in plain sight, so asking for it is asking a child to copy a number; the slope sheets already do that. Here neither crossing is written down — both are a division away — which is the difference between reading an intercept and finding one.
