Early MathOne part of a set, up to 12 in all
Circle equal groups: the bottom number says how many. Then write the answer.
One third of 9 is a question about nine things, not about a circle cut into slices. These free printable worksheets print the objects themselves, so a child can ring them into equal groups and count one group to find the answer.
If they get stuck

The answer key prints on a separate page.
The bottom number says how many groups to make. For 1/4 of 12 the child rings the 12 pictures into four equal groups, then counts how many are in one of them and writes 3. The fraction is doing the same job as division, and nobody has had to say so yet.
Every pile on this page holds 12 objects or fewer, and the fractions run from halves up to sixths. The answer key draws the rings and shades the counted group, so a child who got a wrong number can see where the groups went wrong. Once one group is easy, the next page asks for more than one, such as 2/3 of 12.
