What's on this sheet
A whole number times a fraction is repeated addition wearing a shorter notation: 3 × 2/5 is 2/5 + 2/5 + 2/5, and counting fifths gives six of them. The denominator never changes because the size of each piece never changes — only how many you have.
Why this sheet works
Every answer on these sheets is already in lowest terms, and that is deliberate. CCSS 4.NF.B.4 does not ask for simplifying, and its own example stops at 6/5 — but a page where some answers reduce and some do not cannot say which it wants, and a child who writes 3/6 is then right by the instruction and wrong by the habit every other fraction sheet has taught them. Choosing the numbers so the question never arises is cleaner than adding a rule.
How this one works

- The whole number multiplies the TOP only. The bottom number says how big each piece is, and taking more pieces does not make them smaller.
- 2 × 1/5 means 1/5 taken 2 times: 1/5 + 1/5.
- Every piece is a fifth, and adding them does not change their size — it only counts more of them. So the bottom number stays 5.
- Count the tops: 2 × 1 = 2. That is 2/5.
