About this worksheet
"Add a zero" gets the right answer and teaches the wrong idea. What actually happens is that every digit moves one place to the left: the 7 in 7 × 10 = 70 is no longer worth seven ones, it is worth seven tens, and the zero is what holds the empty ones column. Children taught the shortcut without the reason are the ones who later write 7.5 × 10 = 7.50.
Because the answers come so easily, this table is the best place to practise the habits rather than the facts — writing neatly, working down the page without skipping, and checking the answer key independently. The arithmetic is free, so the attention can go somewhere else.
