35 = 5 × 7 says something in words: 35 is five times as many as 7. These free printable worksheets ask for the sentence rather than the product, which is the one multiplication question a page of sums never gets round to.
The wrong answer these sheets are built around is “35 is 5 more than 7”. It is on every question, because it is what a child writes when “times as many” has not landed — the two phrasings are three words apart and a whole operation apart, and a page that never puts them side by side never finds out which one a child is hearing.
Why this sheet works
The other two options are the same sentence with its numbers swapped, which is the second thing that goes wrong. Nothing on the page can be crossed off without reading it: every option is a true-sounding sentence about the right three numbers.
