Draw on thermometers worksheets

Reading a thermometer asks what the liquid says. Drawing on one asks the child to find the place first. These free printable worksheets give six temperatures and six empty Celsius thermometers, with an answer sheet that shows each liquid drawn in.

What's on this sheet

The scale runs from −20° up to 40° and every question lands on a labeled ten-degree mark. So the numbers are never the hard part. What the child has to work out is where the number lives on the scale, and how far up from the bulb the liquid has to go to reach it.

Why this sheet works

Temperatures below zero are where this page earns its place. To show −10° the liquid stops below the 0, even though −10 looks like it has a bigger number in it than 0 does. A child who draws −20° higher than −10° has told you exactly what to teach next, and that is much harder to see on a page where the child only reads a number off the scale.

How this one works

Fill the thermometer

numbered every:10°C
from zero, upwards
numbered every:10°C
fill to 40°C
  1. Check the numbered marks first: they go up in 10°C.
  2. Count up from the zero mark, not from the bottom of the tube.
  3. Fill it to 40°C and stop there.
