What's on this sheet

Multiplication can be done in any order, so a friendly pair split apart by another number can simply be brought together. 25 × 13 × 4 becomes 25 × 4 × 13, which is 100 × 13 = 1300. The hard-looking question was an easy one in a different order.

Why this sheet works

The second kind hides the partner inside the other number. 25 × 36 does not show a 4, but 36 is 4 × 9, so the question is 25 × 4 × 9 = 100 × 9 = 900. The same goes for 125 × 24 = 125 × 8 × 3 = 3000. Spotting that 36 is a multiple of 4 is the real skill.

  1. Split the second number so a friendly pair appears.
  2. Work out the easy part first: 125 × 8 × 6 = 1000 × 6.
  3. Then finish: 1000 × 6 = 6000.
