Multiplication by 15 worksheets

Fifteen is ten and half of ten, which makes its table one of the quickest to work out beyond the grid. These free printable worksheets cover 15 × 1 through 15 × 15 — minutes on a clock face, counted in quarter hours.

What's on this sheet

Multiply by ten, then add half of that. 15 × 8 is 80, half of 80 is 40, and together they make 120. For an odd number the half is a five: 15 × 7 is 70 plus 35, which is 105. The whole table rests on two moves a child already trusts.

Why this sheet works

Fifteen is also the clock's quarter hour, and that gives the first few facts a meaning: 15 × 2 = 30 is half an hour, 15 × 4 = 60 is a whole one. A child who knows 15 × 4 = 60 can reach 15 × 8 = 120 as two hours, and the clock becomes a check on the arithmetic.

How this one works

2 × 15

2×15
15 + 15=30
2 × 5=10
2 × 10=20
10+20=30
2×15=30
  1. 2 × 15 means 2 groups with 15 in each one — 2 rows of 15. The answer counts everything in all of them, not one row.
  2. That is 2 lots of 15, added up: 15 + 15 = 30.
  3. If 2 × 15 will not come, split the 15 at five: 2 × 5 = 10, and 2 × 10 = 20. Together that is 10 + 20 = 30.
  4. So 2 × 15 = 30.
