What's on this sheet
Take the eight fact and double it. 16 × 7 starts at 8 × 7 = 56, and doubling gives 112. 16 × 9 is 72 doubled, 144. A child who is shaky on the eights can go one step further back: double the four fact twice, since 16 is 4 × 4.
Why this sheet works
Tens plus sixes is the other way in: 16 × 7 is 70 plus 42, which is 112 again. For the facts above ten the doubling route stays tidier — 16 × 15 is 120 doubled, 240 — and 16 × 20 = 320 is simply 16 × 10 doubled.
