Multiplication by 3 worksheets

The three times table is the first one a child cannot get for free. Doubling handled the twos, the fives announced themselves, the tens fell out of place value — the threes have to be learned. These free printable worksheets cover 3 × 1 through 3 × 10.

About this worksheet

Because there is no shortcut, this is the table that teaches a child what learning a table actually feels like. That is worth naming out loud rather than hiding: the twos, fives, and tens were unusually kind, and a child who thinks every table will arrive that easily reads the threes as evidence that they are bad at multiplication. They are not — they have simply reached the ordinary case.

The strategy that does work here is one more group. A child who knows 6 × 2 = 12 gets 6 × 3 by adding one more six: 18. Every three fact sits exactly one group above a two fact they already own, so the table a child just finished is the ladder up to this one, and nothing has to be memorized cold.

Counting by threes is the other route in, and it is genuinely harder to chant than fives or tens because the answers do not land on familiar digits. Ten minutes of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 before a page is often worth more than the page itself. Print with the answer key, change the theme or question count, or reopen the exact sheet later from its picnic basket code.
