What's on this sheet
The first route is five plus one more group. 7 × 6 is 7 × 5 = 35 with one more seven added: 42. The fives are usually the most secure table a child owns, so almost every six fact is one small addition away from something already automatic. This is the same reasoning that will later handle the sevens, so it is worth building the habit here where the fives are strong.
Why this sheet works
The second route is double the threes. 6 × 8 is 3 × 8 = 24 doubled, which is 48. A child who has just finished the three times table gets the sixes at half price, and seeing that two completely different strategies land on the same answer is one of the more convincing things that happens in early multiplication.

- 10 × 6 means 10 groups with 6 in each one — 10 rows of 6. The answer counts everything in all of them, not one row.
- Added up, that is 6 written 10 times — nobody wants to do that. Turn it round: 6 × 10 is the same amount, and it is only 6 lots of 10 to add instead.
- If 6 × 10 will not come, split the 10 at five: 6 × 5 = 30, and 6 × 5 = 30. Together that is 30 + 30 = 60.
- So 10 × 6 = 60.
