Rounding to the nearest hundred worksheets

Rounding to the nearest hundred asks a child to ignore most of a number on purpose. These free printable worksheets give one place for the whole page, so the same decision gets practiced ten times in a row.

What's on this sheet

The deciding digit is the tens digit, and that is the whole lesson. In 3,448 the 4 in the tens place says round down, so the answer is 3,400, and the 8 at the end has no say at all. A child who rounds the ones first and lets the change ripple left gets 3,500, which is the classic wrong answer on this skill.

Why this sheet works

The numbers run from 101 to 9,999, and none of them already sits on a hundred. Going past 1,000 matters: a child who can round 347 may still stumble on 5,074, where the 0 in the hundreds place has to become a 1 and the answer is 5,100.

How this one works

9102 to the nearest hundred

9100or9200?
9102
9102→9100
  1. Find the hundreds digit first — that is the one that might change.
  2. Now look at the single digit just after it: 0. Nothing further along matters at all.
  3. 0 is less than 5, so 9102 is nearer 9100 than 9200. It stays down.
  4. So 9102 to the nearest hundred is 9100.
