RoundingTo the nearest 1000
Round each number to the nearest 1000.
Rounding to the nearest thousand is where place value has to hold up across five digits. These free printable worksheets keep one place for the whole page, with an answer key to check against.
If they get stuck

The answer key prints on a separate page.
The hundreds digit decides, and everything to its right is noise. 59,494 rounds down to 59,000 because of the 4 in the hundreds place, even though the 9 beside it looks as though it should push the number up. That one comparison is what the page repeats.
The numbers run from 1,001 to 99,999. A rounded answer can carry into a new place, so 72,905 becomes 73,000 and a 9 in the thousands place can change the digit before it as well. Those are the questions worth slowing down for, and the check is always the same: the answer should be close to the number you started with.
