What's on this sheet
The month is drawn as a real calendar is, seven columns across with the 1st landing wherever the week puts it, so the child answers by finding a square rather than by counting from the start. That is the skill: a date is located by column and row together, and the same square answers both "what day is the 18th?" and "what date is the third Friday?" depending on which way it is read.
Why this sheet works
The counting questions turn the grid into arithmetic. Asking how many days lie between the 4th and the 17th is subtraction within 31 with a picture to check it against, and asking what comes one week after the 10th is counting on by seven — the calendar's own structure, and the reason a week is a row. A child who is not yet fluent can count the squares; one who is can subtract and then verify by counting. Both are right, and the page lets a family see which is happening.
