What's on this sheet

A child divides a multi-digit dividend by a one- or two-digit divisor and records both the quotient and the leftover remainder. Choose the digit counts to size the work. Turn answers on and every step of the ladder is shown, with the remainder waiting at the foot — the same layout a teacher models on the board.

Why this sheet works

Dividends are drawn so a real remainder is left, not a tidy zero, so this practices the messy case honestly.

How this one works

One question from this sheet, worked through a step at a time.

506 ÷ 6

84 6506 4826242
  1. 506 shared into groups of 6. Long division starts at the LEFT — the other way round from adding.
  2. Start at the left. How many 6s fit into 50? 8 of them — write the 8 on top. 8 × 6 = 48, and 50 − 48 leaves 2. Bring down the 6, which makes 26.
  3. How many 6s fit into 26? 4 — write it on top. 4 × 6 = 24, and 26 − 24 leaves 2.
  4. Nothing is left to bring down, and 2 is too small to divide again — so that is the remainder. 506 ÷ 6 = 84 remainder 2.
