Why a week beats one long page
Place value is the quiet prerequisite for everything else in fifth grade — decimal arithmetic, rounding, and comparing all fail in the same way when it is shaky, and they fail invisibly, as answers that are right except for where the point sits. A week on it is cheap insurance.
How to run it
The climb is in how close the numbers sit to the next boundary. Monday's are comfortably inside their range; Friday's are 9,888 and 9,998, where naming a digit's value means keeping track of a number about to roll over. That is the case that catches a child who has been reading position by counting from the left.
