What's on this chart
The ordinary subtraction chart takes away up to ten, because subtraction facts are usually taught as the addition facts read backwards and the addition table stops at 10 + 10. That is a fair place to stop for learning them. It is the wrong place to stop for looking them up: a page of subtraction within twenty will ask for 18 − 14 and 20 − 13, and neither is on that chart.
Why this chart helps
This one runs both ways to twenty, so the whole fact family is on one page. The empty triangle in the top right is not missing — it is where the number taken away is bigger than the number you started with, and those answers go below zero, which is a different topic and a later year.
