6th grade TEKS math worksheets
42 of 51 6th grade student expectations with a printable sheet · Ages 11–12
Number and operations
- 6.2A
Classify whole numbers, integers and rational numbers using a visual representation.
Partial Sorts a number as rational or irrational. Does not draw the Venn diagram of the sets.
- 6.2B
Identify a number, its opposite and its absolute value.
- 6.2C
Locate, compare and order integers and rational numbers on a number line.
- 6.2D
Order a set of rational numbers.
- 6.2E
Extend division to fraction notation: a/b is the same number as a divided by b.
Partial Divides a fraction by a fraction. Does not read a fraction bar as a division sign.
- 6.3A
Recognise that dividing by a rational number equals multiplying by its reciprocal.
- 6.3B
Decide whether multiplying by a fraction increases or decreases a quantity.
- 6.3C
Represent integer operations with concrete models and connect them to algorithms.
Partial Adds and subtracts the integers. Does not build the operation from a model.
- 6.3D
Add, subtract, multiply and divide integers fluently.
- 6.3E
Multiply and divide positive rational numbers fluently.
Proportionality
- 6.4A
Compare the rules y = ax and y = x + a to tell multiplicative from additive.
Partial Generates and graphs each pattern. Does not ask which kind of relationship it is.
- 6.4B
Use reasoning to predict and compare with ratios and rates.
- 6.4C
Give examples of ratios as multiplicative comparisons of two quantities.
- 6.4D
Give examples of rates as the comparison by division of two quantities.
- 6.4E
Represent ratios and percents with models, fractions and decimals.
- 6.4F
Represent benchmark percents such as 1%, 10%, 25% and 33 1/3%.
- 6.4G
Generate equivalent forms of fractions, decimals and percents.
- 6.4H
Convert units within a measurement system using proportions and unit rates.
- 6.5A
Solve ratio and rate problems with scale factors, tables, graphs and proportions.
- 6.5B
Find the whole, the part or the percent given the other two.
- 6.5C
Use equivalent fractions, decimals and percents to show equal parts.
Expressions, equations, and relationships
- 6.6A
Identify independent and dependent quantities from tables and graphs.
- 6.6B
Write an equation for the relationship shown in a table.
- 6.6C
Represent a situation as y = kx or y = x + b in words, tables, graphs and equations.
- 6.7A
Generate equivalent expressions using order of operations and prime factorisation.
- 6.7B
Distinguish between expressions and equations.
Partial Evaluates an expression. Does not ask the child to tell one from an equation.
- 6.7C
Determine whether two expressions are equivalent.
- 6.7D
Generate equivalent expressions using the properties of operations.
- 6.8A
Use the triangle angle sum, the side-angle relationship and the triangle inequality.
- 6.8B
Model the area formulas for parallelograms, trapezoids and triangles.
- 6.8C
Write equations for area and volume problems with rational dimensions.
- 6.8D
Solve area and volume problems with positive rational dimensions.
- 6.9A
Write one-variable, one-step equations and inequalities for a problem.
- 6.9B
Represent the solutions of one-step equations and inequalities on a number line.
- 6.10A
Model and solve one-variable, one-step equations and inequalities.
- 6.10B
Determine whether given values make an equation or inequality true.
Measurement and data
- 6.12A
Represent numeric data in dot plots, stem-and-leaf plots, histograms and box plots.
- 6.12B
Describe the centre, spread and shape of a distribution from its graph.
- 6.12C
Summarise numeric data with mean, median, range and interquartile range.
- 6.12D
Summarise categorical data with the mode and a relative frequency table.
Partial Reads a two-way frequency table. Does not draw the percent bar graph.
- 6.13A
Interpret data in dot plots, stem-and-leaf plots, histograms and box plots.
- 6.13B
Distinguish situations that yield data with variability from those that do not.
Not a worksheet
These expectations have no sheet, for two different reasons. Listing them is the point — a catalog that showed only the hits would say this grade is fuller than it is.
Personal financial literacy (8) — a TEKS strand with no Common Core equivalent, and one Math Picnic has never built for. This is a gap, not a mismatch.
- 6.14ACompare the features and costs of a checking account and a debit card.
- 6.14BDistinguish between debit cards and credit cards.
- 6.14CBalance a check register with deposits, withdrawals and transfers.
- 6.14DExplain why it is important to establish a positive credit history.
- 6.14EDescribe what a credit report holds and how long it is retained.
- 6.14FDescribe the value of credit reports to borrowers and lenders.
- 6.14GExplain methods of paying for college: savings, grants, loans, work-study.
- 6.14HCompare salaries by level of education and their effect on lifetime income.
6.9C — Write a real-world problem for a given one-step equation or inequality.
The expectation is writing a STORY for a given equation. Our word-problem sheets go the other way — a story to solve — and a generated sheet cannot mark an invented context.
